It is impossible to brew beer without water. We aim to use this valuable resource as efficiently as possible and target a 50% reduction in water usage at our breweries by 2030.
This will take our water consumption from a 2015 baseline of 3.4hl/hl to an industry leading 1.7hl/hl. Achieving this target will save the equivalent of 8112 Olympic-sized swimming pools every year.
Our approach is to conserve all the water that is not actually in our products, to use it efficiently and clean it after use — thereby enabling either re-use in our breweries, use by other industries e.g. farming, or safe return to the natural environment.
